Training from the BACK of the Room Practitioner

The official 2-day in-person “Training from the BACK of the Room” (TBR) Practitioner Class is a globally-acclaimed, interactive, skills-building train-the-trainer class for anyone who is a trainer, teacher, instructor, coach, or facilitator of learning.

You’ll explore how the human brain really learns, which is very different from traditional assumptions about learning. And you’ll be introduced to “cognitive neuroscience” concepts – the brain science behind all effective instructional design and human learning.

The Certified Training from the BACK of the Room (TBR) Practitioner certification demonstrates an understanding of the tools and techniques for effectively designing training and workshops that both engage the entire audience and drive towards agreed-upon outcomes.

Meet Your Trainer

My journey towards becoming a Product Agility expert began with the standard Scrum Alliance courses based on the teachings of Jeff Sutherland and Ken Schwaber. I worked as a team member in Scrum Teams and believed I had reached the end of my Scrum journey. However, when I attempted an Agile Project Management course, it turned out to be a forgettable learning experience.

Feeling disheartened by the agile world, I was recommended a book called “Scaling Agile and Lean Development” by Craig Larman and Bas Vodde, which helped me forget Agile Project Management and fully embrace Product Agility.

Since then, I have focused on experimenting with ways to balance an organisation’s desire for control, collaboration, and innovation to untap the true potential of Product Agility. This has involved educating, coaching, and leading organisational transformations to move from traditional technology organisations with broken supply and demand models to organisations that move beyond this ineffective model towards the intersection of Product Management and Agility – Product Agility.

The growth of people to be effective in achieving organisational and personal goals is the critical catalyst for success. Coaching, training, and mentoring people at all levels of the organisation are key components of this approach.

As the host of the Product Agility Podcast, I get to learn from industry experts from both the worlds of Product and Agile. All of this learning I love to share all with my audience and factor it into every engagement, talk and article I write or contribute towards.

Teaching with Brain Science

The techniques designed by Sharon Bowman are based on years of studies into the neuroscience of learning and give you the tools to short-circuit creative learning.

5 Great Take-Aways

  1. All the brain-based, interactive strategies you’ll experience during the class are content-independent, meaning you can use them with any subject or topic, even the driest or most technical ones.

  2. All the learning activities you’ll collect during the class are from 1- to 5-minutes in length, which means that they’re really easy to insert into any class or training program. You’ll create your trainer’s toolbag full of these short, quick learning strategies.

  3. You’ll experience everything you’ll be learning about, including six major brain-science principles that make learner-centred, brain-based instruction so successful and exciting.

  4. You’ll design one of your classes or training programs using your topic, your trainer’s toolbag strategies, and the instructional design model called “The 4Cs Map.” And you’ll receive peer feedback during the class to help you polish what you’ve designed.

  5. You’ll leave with a fantastic collection of resources: 2x books and 1x workbook; a trainer’s toolbag full of activities you can use immediately; 6 brain-science principles, the 4Cs Map; innovative and interactive ways to use PowerPoint; fun learning aids; and dozens of other digital resources to enhance your teaching and training skills.

TBRWkbkCoverFinalA4 1And here is a bonus takeaway: If you already have the books Training from the BACK of the Room! and Using Brain Science to Make Training Stick! you’ll get to experience both books in action, which is hugely different from just reading the books!
